Department of Public Works

Our Mission

The Mission of the Public Works Department is to provide quality service in the areas of engineering, traffic, streets, planning, building, water pollution control, facility maintenance, and code enforcement in order to contribute to the physical, social and economical growth of the City of Sheridan.

The Public Works Department is committed to providing a safe working environment for it's employees. It goes towards enhancing the quality of the environment through the application of innovative management practices, the use of the best available technology, sound conservation principles, and teamwork.

Administrative Staff
Administrative staff are located on the 2nd floor in the City Hall Building. Staff is involved with reviewing and approving plans and specifications for city projects and proposed developments. Administrative staff also performs long range planning for improvements to the City infrastructure and operations to ensure that the changing needs of the community are met. Public Works Administration manages the department by providing leadership, policy development, administrative and technical support, career development and training opportunities. The Public Works Department has a number of divisions. We Are Responsible For:
  • Issuing street opening permits
  • Issuing permits for temporary use of street, alley or sidewalk
  • Providing information on all City projects past and present
  • Providing Engineering information
  • Completing, submitting and administering federal, state and local grant applications
  • Administering Capital Improvement Plan
  • Administering all City improvement projects
  • Inspecting all City projects and private development projects
  • Working with government funding agencies (i.e. WWDC, SLIB, DEQ, WYDOT)
  • Working with various local organizations (i.e. DSA, Chamber of Commerce, SADA, Housing Authority, Forward Sheridan)

SNOW REMOVAL PLAN!

City Council approved a snow removal plan in January 2007. The goal: in the event of a big storm, crews will work overnight and have streets "ready to go" in the morning. Please see this brochure for more information:
