City of Sheridan Utilities Maintenance

Our Goal
The Utilities Maintenance Team is charged with the operation and maintenance of a very complicated distribution system that includes pipes that belong to both the City of Sheridan and the Sheridan Area Joint Powers Board. The Utilities Maintenance Team also maintains the sanitary sewer collection system to ensure it remains in good flowing condition.

Brief Description of Responsibilities
  • We operate and maintain the water systems for the City, SAWS and the Downer area.
  • We operate and maintain the sewage collection systems for the City and the Downer area.
  • We answer water and sewer concerns and questions.
  • We provide 24/7 emergency response to water/sewer incidents.
  • We locate underground piping systems owned by the City, SAWS and the Downer area.
  • We turn on and off water supply lines on request.
  • We can be reached during working hours at 672-0129.
  • We can be contacted after hours by calling the Police Department and asking them to page us.
  • We install and maintain water meters.
  • We read water meters.
Did You Know We Take Dirty Pictures?

The maintenance team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of over 80 miles of sanitary sewer mains in the Sheridan area. This includes video surveys, cleaning and making repairs of deficiencies found during the video surveys, and maintenance of over 600 manholes.

Past Mayor, Jim Wilson, viewing the sewer monitoring camera system.

What Projects Are We Working On?
The team is currently in the process of making repairs at 31 different places in the collection system that video surveys have indicated the pipes are collapsed or about to collapse.

We are in the final stages of the construction of a water sales point near the Game & Fish building that will dispense water upon the swipe of a charge card. This unit will provide better access for the large trucks that have trouble getting in and out of the Washington park site. With the help of the GIS division, we are about to start the cataloging of the assets of our systems and entering them into a comprehensive database. This will give us better inventory control and aid in the maintenance activities.

What we are doing to support the Mayor's Initiatives
  • Painting of fire hydrant  (City Appearance).
  • Mow weeds and grass at facilities (City Appearance).

What Can You Do To Help The Meter Reading Staff?
  • Clear the area around the meter for easy access.
  • Trim bushes and trees so meters can be found.
  • Brush the snow off the meter pits in winter time.
Please...Be Careful Out There...

We make a very big attempt to be seen when working in the streets of our City by wearing bright reflective clothing and using signage that includes flashing lights, delineating cones and other signs as needed. We would appreciate drivers taking an alternate roadway or at least slowing as they pass our operations.
