Curbside Recycling Pilot Project

Good news! Sheridan is launching a curbside recycling pilot program!

The City of Sheridan Recycling Program has applied for and received a $31,300 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct a curbside recycling pilot program. The purpose of this program is to evaluate how much additional material could be diverted from the landfill and recycled through curbside pickup.

For the pilot program, we have selected two neighborhoods totaling approximately 250 households, with an anticipated participation rate of 50%. Those 125 homes are projected to recycle 79.7 tons of material within the year’s pilot project. The neighborhoods selected for this pilot project are the Sparrow Hawk and Mountain View Addition subdivisions.

Some questions you might ask if you live in one of the pilot neighborhoods:

  • Do I have a choice about participating in the program? Yes. You may opt not to participate.
  • What will change for me? You will have two trash receptacles; one for non-recyclable garbage and one for all recyclables.
  • Will the program cost me anything? No.
  • Will any recyclable materials be excluded from the program? Yes. Yard waste and glass will still have to be taken to the landfill or to a recycling drop site.
  • Will I have to sort my recyclables? No. All recyclables included in the program may be co-mingled.
If you have questions or need additional information regarding this pilot program, please e-mail Shanon Short, City of Sheridan Recycling Coordinator, or call Shanon directly at 751-5542.
