What are the restrictions on headstones?
A headstone for a single grave must be no larger than 14 inches wide, 30 inches long, or 60 inches for double grave, and nine inches high. The headstone must be placed on a concrete base 24 inches wide and 3 feet long. Any additional marker must be ground level.

Can I plant trees or shrubs on a grave?
City ordinances prohibit the planting of trees or shrubs on grave plots. You may plant most perennials and annuals. If you want to plant a tree in the cemetery arrangements can be made to pant one on the perimeter of the graves.

What items may I leave on a grave?
You may leave artificial and real flowers, small statures and figurines, and small personal mementos. The Sheridan Municipal Cemetery is not responsible for items left on graves, so don't leave anything that would bother you to lose. Glass or other breakable items are prohibited as well as basket hangers and large planters, urns, etc.

Who took my grave decorations?
The City of Sheridan conducts an annual clean-up of the cemetery usually beginning about April 1. Anything left on the graves at that time is removed and hauled to the city landfill. Decorations may be returned the week before Memorial Day. Any prohibited items will be removed on sight. It is not unknown to have items stolen from cemeteries it doesn't happen often here.

Do I need to hire a caretaker to take care of my loved ones grave?
The Sheridan Municipal Cemetery crew does the general maintenance on the grounds. Irrigation is provided by a computerized watering system. It is not necessary to pay for this service.

Is the city of Sheridan responsible for the entire cemetery?
The City of Sheridan is responsible for the Municipal Cemetery. There are 5 private lodge cemeteries adjacent to the City cemetery. They are as follows: BPOE (Elks), FOE (Eagles), IOOF (Oddfellows), Masonic 8 Lodge and Masonic 43 Lodge. Questions about these cemeteries should be directed to the particular organization.
