What is my address?
What will my address be?
Need more information on location. This means there is then a sequence of questions I have to ask to find out where the property is to give an answer. Once I know the parcel location (and in some cases the design of the project) then I can answer the question. In some cases the answer is when the site plan is submitted then we will assign an address.
What is the zoning on my property?
Need more information on location. I need to know where the parcel is located to give the zoning classification.
Can I get my site plan from you for my new building permit?
No, this is something you need to do yourself or have a surveyor do, depending on the size and complexity of the project. GIS can provide you with some information on your platted lot to help get you started.
Can you tell me who the owner of a piece of property is?
The county is the caretaker of the ownership information. This is a question best answered by them.
Can you make a map for me?
This ranges from simple I would like a picture of my house to can you do engineering drawings. Generally the answer applies to the simple end of the spectrum. Yes. If it is a map we already have and you need a copy there may be a cost involved for printing. If it is a map we do not already have then we can create one, but this depends on time available, and there will be extended cost involved for this. Or first priority is to other city departments in map production and analysis of data.
Is my property in or out of the city?
Need more information on location. I need to know where the property is. I can also tell if the property is within the ½ and 1 mile areas.
Can I get data from you to do my own project design?
Or for an Engineer. We do sell data. The basic dataset is sold on a quarter section size and is $50.00 per quarter section. This would include the 2002 photography and all the elevation data supplied with it. Other data the city creates is sold and pricing is available in the GIS office.
Where is X located and how do I get there?
This can range from an address, to a street, to a legal Lot and Block description, to a company name or individual name, to who knows what. We generaly need more information.Generally I start asking questions back to help me find the location, sometimes in the city and sometimes in the county. Once I have asked enough questions to locate in the data what they are trying to find, then I can answer this question.
Am I in a flood plain?
Need more information on location of the property. Once the location is determined then the question can most likely be answered. Because the information is supplied at such a small scale (large area covered), if the property is near a boundary then we would refer you to a surveyor to verify the flood zone information.
What kind of data do you have?
We care a wide variety of data, some from other sources like the county and state, some we purchase like our aerial photography and many layers we create. We have a long list and some is project specific and some is proprietary and we cannot release it in any form. A short list would include the Aerial, Street Centerline, Parcel, Water, Sewer, Storm Sewer, Schools, Zoning, City Boundary, Ward Boundary, Census info, PLSS, Trails, Topography, Streams, to name a few.
