CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE UPDATE

WEEK OF May 11th – 17th, 2008

From the Desk of Mayor Dave Kinskey

Linden Area Construction Project

Linden Avenue will continue to be closed on weekdays from7 AM to 5:30 PM. This closure will allow Hot Iron to the base for asphalt pavement. Asphalt placement is scheduled for this week. Upon completion of asphalt placement, the street will be permanently reopened. Residents are again asked to park their vehicles along Whitney during this period, and make sure they do not use Linden during the 7 AM – 5:30 PM hours. We greatly appreciate the cooperation extended thus far in regard to parking. PLEASE do not park in the Child Development Center Parking lot during this time. Installation of concrete sidewalks, handicap ramps and driveways is very close to completion.
All that remains is some minor sidewalk work scattered throughout the project.
Property owners who lost trees as a result of project construction will soon be receiving a letter verifying the location of and type of new trees to be planted.
If you do not receive such a letter within the next week, please give Dave Engels of EnTech a call at 673-1542, Ext. 6.
Trees will be planted before the sod is installed. Tree planting is now scheduled for the week of May 19th.
Construction personnel will continue with backfilling behind and around new curbs and sidewalks, as well as repairing sprinkler systems.

North Broadway North Gould Construction Project
Sidewalk installation will on Gould, south to 11th should be completed this week. Preparations for the new sidewalks will precede the concrete placement. Curb and gutter installation will begin on Gould, Broadway and 10th from 11th to 10th. Street excavation will continue on 8th Street and then move to Broadway, beginning at the intersection of Broadway and 8th Street. The proposed locations of driveway approached have been marked in the area. If you have questions or concerns concerning the locations of these approaches, please contact Wilbur Wallace at 672-9006 or 406-861-8439. Additional paving will take place later this month or possibly in early June.

Brooks Street Reconstruction
Work on this project will begin June 2.

Rotomill & Overlay Project
Some of the City’s streets long overdue for repairs will undergo the rotomill & overlay process this spring and summer. Letters have been sent out to residents & property owners in the areas that will be affected. More updates will follow with schedule updates. City crews will be patching street sections during the month of May. The Contractor is scheduled to begin roto-milling and overlaying the streets at the end of this month. News letters will continue to be mailed out for this project updating residents of upcoming work. Street closures will happen around the area to have the contractor get the work completed as fast as it can. These street closures will be planned out and notification will be critical to all drivers who use these streets.
Streets Crew
The street crews will be doing pothole patching around town. Crews will be starting street repairs in preparation for the roto-mill & overlay project in the Sheltered Acres area. Residents should be prepared for street closures and detours. Mailings will be sent to area residents outlining the schedule for street closures and detours. Crews will be doing alley maintenance from Whitney Street working to the south.

Parks Crew & Cemetery Crew
The parks and cemetery crews will continue to cleanup debris that accumulated over the winter. They will be starting up the sprinkler systems. The cemetery crews will be planting trees on the west end and continuing with cleanup in preparation for Memorial Day.

Street Sweepers/Washers
Sweepers will be covering the areas east of and Coffeen including the Avenues East and Heartland Drive, areas west of Coffeen to Main,
including Sheltered Acres and the south hill area from the Courthouse south to Mountain Shadows.

Utility Crews
Two new manholes have been installed on Big Horn Ave. Flushing of water mains is continuing in the south part of town east of Main Street and on the north end of town working east of Marion Street. This is an annual maintenance project. The sewer maintenance crew will continue on the south hill, south of Sioux Street. The crew is removing tree roots from the sewer mains and when this is complete they will be applying a root control agent to the interior of the mains which will retard the growth of roots for up to two years.

North Heights Avenue Reconstruction
Work on this project began last week. The street is closed at the top of the hill which the contractor is removing the subgrade road material.
This week trench drain will be installed along the west side of the street. This project is tentatively slated for completion June 6, 2008.
Please use caution and keep children away from construction equipment which will be in the area.

Lewis Street Sidewalk
Work on this project will begin this week.
